The weather’s getting warmer, the sun is getting brighter. Here’s my top tracks for Spring into Summer 2025, the songs getting me through long days and making me feel excited again.
From their legendary 1990 album “Heaven or Las Vegas” , “Fifty-fifty Clown” is one that in my opinion, is underrated. It feels powerful yet ethereal, like you’re yearning for something but at the same time headed towards a new destination filled with force. This song has been carrying me through long drives and long workdays editing photos, never failing to stop me in my tracks to listen to the chorus with no distractions. Listen to this in the car if you ever want to feel like you’re headed somewhere incredibly transcendental.

2. On Your Way Down : The Jungle Giants
One of my favorite tracks from “Quiet Ferocity” in 2017, “On Your Way Down” is one of the classic summer tracks you’ll hear coming from a speaker in the summer heat right before someone asks “what song is this?”. It’s groovy, fun, exciting, and the epitome of warm weather, which might be why it was released in July. A great track to listen to if you’re connected to the aux cord, going for a run or want to boost your mood.

3. Walk Home : Bon Iver
From Bon Iver’s new album “sABLE, fABLE,” this track has the familiar introspective feel of a Bon Iver song but with a sense of comfort and familiarity. A Bon Iver song is typically a classic to play when you’re in the mood to yearn or feel a sense of nostalgia. “Walk Home” has that same feeling, but with a steady percussion and heartfelt lyrics, this one feels less like reminiscing and more like a sense of gratitude. Throw this one on if you want to feel warm inside and match the sun.

4. coloured concrete : Nemahsis
As a person who is always thinking about whats next, this song hits home. From Nemahsis’ 2024 album “Verbathim”, this track carries a beautiful message layered with refined instrumentals. “coloured concrete” feels like a dream, a break from reality and a reminder to take things in as they come. Nemahsis shared in a Rolling Stone interview that the song comes from a memory from her childhood, when her mom told her she can color the concrete on her bedroom floor before there was enough financial freedom to renovate. The bedroom never came to life, however when traveling she stayed at an Airbnb that held the room she always had in her mind. She shares that people who seem to be more comfortable and move slower often have the comfortability of financial freedom, and how we should all be taking the idea of slowing down into our everyday lives. A beautiful track inside and out, one that will be on repeat all summer.

5. Gone : Charli xcx, Christine and the Queens
After the yearlong (and still going) success of “brat”, it’s safe to say a lot of us are retracing our steps in Charli’s discography, which is a large and impressive one at that. My favorite track from her third album “Charli”, “Gone” with Christine and the Queens is yet another example of how Charli xcx can mix such vulnerable messages with an addictive hyperpop sound. The song dives into how you can feel so insecure while presenting so confidently, and how it can feel to be in a room full of people who don’t understand or care for you. At the surface, a catchy and enticing song, but gets deeper with every listen.

6. All the Noise : Spacey Jane
The first single to their third album “If That Makes Sense”, “All The Noise” is a track that really draws you in (bonus points for an awesome album cover). It’s powerful and cathartic, and full of energy. It feels rebellious, going hand in hand with the visuals from the music video of the band robbing a gas station - my favorite part is when they play baseball with a bag of popcorn. It has elements of punk drizzled throughout - aggression, fast tempos, and some distortion from the guitar. It’s awesome, and you can tell the band had fun with recording this one.

7. Starling : Sarah Kinsley
For those of us who still want to feel deeply and yearn in warmer weather, this one is for you. I have reason to believe this is one of the most beautiful ballads to exist, one that will pull all emotions out of you. “Starling” shines light on how love can be fleeting, in platonic relationships as well as romantic ones. It faces deep feeling of an end, but also the relief and openness to a beginning. A perfect song for the changing of seasons, as everything in life comes and goes.

8. LCA : The Dare
The Dare has become an illusive phenomenon in the music and pop culture world in the name of indie sleaze. “LCA” is the first of a handful of new tracks on the deluxe “What’s Wrong With New York?: Afters”. The song is fun, electric, sexy, and exciting. Like a lot of The Dare’s music, the lyrics are silly, tied to partying, and being careless and free. An awesome song to turn all the way up and put on a cool outfit (maybe a suit?), a pair of sunglasses, and feel fucking cool.

9. Rivet Gun : Mother Soki
A single by young artist Mother Soki, “Rivet Gun” is an ultimate dream pop anthem, you can really feel the influence of the Cocteau Twins in Mother Soki’s music, this song specifically. (What a full circle moment for this list, right?) The track has addictive instrumentals paired with ethereal vocals, mixing together to create something super special. The song feels equally heavenly as it does intense, like Mother Soki knows something we don’t.

10. Try : Nilüfer Yanya
This one may sound familiar if you’ve watched the final season of the Netflix show “You”, as this track is featured in episode four of the series. “Try” is a song that feels hypnotic and meditative, through enchanting guitar rifts and Yanya’s elegant vocals. As the lyrics suggest, its easy to get lost in this song as you feel the confusion and navigational journey of the music. A song that pairs great with day dreaming and visuals, probably why it was chosen to play in a show.
